California Sunset is a hybrid succulent from the genus Graptosedum — a cross between Graptopetalum paraguayense and Sedum adolphii.
Its full name is Graptosedum ‘California Sunset’.
🌿 Appearance
- Color: The leaves range from rosy orange, pink, or peach to silvery green, depending on sunlight and temperature — hence the name “sunset.”
- Shape: Rosette-shaped with plump, pointed leaves.
- Size: Rosettes grow about 4–6 inches wide, with stems that can trail or sprawl as they mature — making them great for hanging pots or ground cover.
- Flowers: Small white or pale yellow star-shaped flowers usually appear in spring.
🌞 Light & Growth
- Thrives in bright light or full sun. The more sun, the deeper the sunset colors.
- In low light, leaves turn more green and the plant stretches (becomes “leggy”).
💧 Watering
- Follow the classic “soak and dry” method: water deeply when soil is fully dry.
- Overwatering is the main killer — root rot can set in fast.
🌱 Soil
- Needs well-draining succulent or cactus mix.
- Adding perlite or pumice improves drainage.
🌡️ Temperature
- Prefers 65–80°F (18–27°C).
- Not frost-hardy — protect from freezing temperatures (below 30°F / -1°C).
🪴 Propagation
