Don Loper
Don Loper had a number of professions before he came to costume design - he was a dancer, choreographer, actor, director, costume and set designer. In 1946, he opened a sophisticated couture dress salon on Sunset Boulevard. The lavishly appointed salon showcased a bevy of magnificent gowns, cocktail dresses, suits, dresses, and coats - all with hugely expensive price tags.  His designs, which embodied the chic elegance of the period, were very much prized by Hollywood's elite movie stars and by socialites alike. So much so that Lucille Ball, in her hit TV show I Love Lucy dedicated an entire episode to the designer. Today, Don Loper designs often come with hefty price tags, especially the earlier ones. As with Lilli Ann, one can usually spot a Don Loper original by the look, design and cut.

Condition

Excellent.

No notable flaws that I can see - a tiny bit of crushing to the velvet but hard to notice due to its lustre and a couple of loose threads. It's really in wonderful condition for its age. The coat is beautifully finished and can almost be worn with the lurex on the outside.

Please note that these are vintage items that have been used and loved over the years, As such, they may display slight evidence of their age. Any notable flaws above and beyond this will be highlighted here.

Comment

A beautiful and affecting book
Format: Hardcover
A beautiful and affecting book. The civil war is, at least to me, deeply familiar, but this book focuses on the personal, and conveys with a painful immediacy the ways that the horror of this conflict infiltrated and transformed the day-to-day existence of our not-so-distant ancestors. I was struck as I have never been before by the degree to which the appalling, unprecedented violence of the conflict was "just around the corner" for familiar and modern-seeming Americans.

... our traditional textbook and primary sources) and my students LOVE it. Although it's not perfect
Format: Hardcover
I have started using this in my US history survey class (along with our traditional textbook and primary sources) and my students LOVE it. Although it's not perfect, it's a great complement to other sources and offers a terrific way to talk about alternate ways to interpret history. In addition, my 11 and 14 year old sons have also read it and enjoyed it, so it's accessible for a broad range of ages. And, as my students note in their final papers, it's fun to read, and how often do gen ed students say that at the end of the semester?

Carry on with the great writing Rachel Lacey while I look for my next bodyguard book
Format: Kindle
I'm on a bodyguard reading kick right now, only wlw of course. I read this one for the first time about a year ago and somehow, I didn't leave a review. ( I'm good at hopping from one book to another and forgetting to write one. oopsy) I loved the bodyguard part but as stories go I always hate someone's parent dying. ( too much like real life) I know it's necessary to show why Natalie is so effed up. Rachel wrote a great ending to this story and that is always a plus in my eyes.

cute and captivating
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed the storyline and the emotional growth of the characters in this book. I’d been putting it off for a while but I’m glad I finally picked it up and took a chance on it because it was such a cute story.
