In Prix Galien Greece 2015, the award was bestowed to Dr. Afxentios Kalangos, Head of Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, University Hospital of Geneva for his great humanitarian work. The leading Greek surgeon, founder of the charity “Hearts for All» (Coeurs pour tous), has treated free 13,000 needy children around the world with the unique reward being the smile of these children.
The Pro Bono Humanum Award was established in order to reward a significant personality, a scientific company or an academic institute, for the great social and scientific contribution in the field of health.
For 2013, this award was bestowed to Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, for the great contribution in the health sector in our country with the foundation of the first Oncology Hospital for children in Greece “Marianna V. vardinoyiannis ELPIDA Children’s Oncology Unit.” Receiving the prize, Mrs. Vardinoyannis stressed that “cancer is defeated” and that “my duty was always offering to our fellow man.”
